    Hello,
I'm trying to backup the movie Hostel. I'm using Mac The Ripper and DVD2ONE. When using MTR an error message comes up saying that the vob has deliberate bad sectors. It then asks me if I want to delete the vob or pad it. I've tried to pad it. Then I go to use DVD2ONE to compress it and it stops processing about half way through. This is a Sony movie and I heard that this is a new copy protection technique Sony is using. Any suggetions?

I'm going to be smug and suggest you wait until there are some used copies that are available cheap and get your backup that way.

But you also could try converting the ripped VOB set to DV and then re-encode the MPEG.

    Which version of MTR?

Hostel has been successfully copied using the following steps:

Rip with MTR Version 3 release 13d (latest beta)

Set DVD2OneX Version 2 to a movie only, remove the 52 empty cells and proceed.

You should have a disc that plays on your Mac and set top player
