  1. Hello all, I'm having some issues with backing up my DVDs with this Pioneer 111d, I had a Pioneer 108 and I had no problem, burning at 12x on 8x Ritek media, on the 111d I burn at 8x (no biggie) but my back ups skip when I play on one of my DVD players. Any suggestions?

    Thank you in advanced

  2. I've read that the Pioneer 111/111d does not do well with Ritek G05. Possibly other Ritek codes. I have not purchased any Ritek media in over 2 years so I have no personal experience. My 111d does very well with MCC 004, MCC 03RG20, Yuden000T02, TYG02 and even TYG03 to some extent.

On a side-note - my old 108 burned Ritek G04/G05 exceptionally well - initially anyways. I just could not cope with the sporadic degradation issues. I eventually reburned every family video I used Ritek media for and redid what few movie backups I had done. It will be a LONG TIME before I ever purchase another Ritek dvd.

Easiest to find in retail stores here in the US is Verbatim DVD-R 16x (MCC 03RG20) and Verbatim DVD+R 16x (MCC 004). The 111D will burn those exceptionally well at 12x - even 16x if you prefer. Taiyo Yuden media is harder to find in retail stores because many brands like Sony have several different media codes available within a given product line. An example would be Sony DVD-R 8x where it could be TYG02 or SONY08D1. The SONY08D1 gets even further confusing because there are two flavors of it - one made in Japan and the other made in Taiwan. As a general rule though, your 111D should be fine with any of the Sony media as far as I can tell with mine. Good luck.
