Hi
I had plans to buy a Pioneer DV-490 dvd-player. But then I read that it have problems with
XviD and packed bitstreams. Wich player is the best choise for XviD files?
Is BBK/Oppo 971H a better choise than the Pioneer, or is there a better player?
Cheers
snabel

Packed bitstream was never the problem. DivX specs actually require it. It was packed bitstream together with multiple bframes (DXN HT profiles require only 1 consecutive bframe).
As far as I know it was only really MTK based players that suffered from the problem and most have received firmware updates to fix it.
The best players would be ones based on the newer Zoran Vadis 888 chipset. I read that the Tevion 8000 is to be officially XviD certified (as opposed to those who just print XviD on the box).
Still MTK based players as a general rule are pretty good.
