    outlook express is screwed up. clicking links in the emails i get send me to my documents or the link wont open.

    By any chance, do you have backups or are your messages still on the email server? Before you drive yourself insane trying to debug everything, try installing Thunderbird and not allowing it to import settings from OE, then enter in all your server info, and try re-downloading your mail. Some ISPs don't delete mail unless you hit certain storage limit. Thunderbird also won't overwrite or corrupt your existing OE settings, which is why I suggested it, and is more secure.
