Can anyone help me, over the last couple of days my internet has played up on some web sites. l can get on all of them but when l try google which l have on my favorites list a page comes up saying THE PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED. This also happens when l try and go on msn, sometimes l can get on msn but when l am on and click back to previous page on msn this message comes up.l have noticed that on the main page of msn there is 4 small boxes that contain the page cannot be displayed, l wonder if this is causeing the problem since l cannot remove them.Does anyone know how l can remove these message boxes and other possible causes.Apart from these two sites l can get on all the others.

  2. Try clearing the browser cache. You may have corrupted files in the cache that the browser is trying to use.

    You may need to run a check for spyware, such as browser hijackers.

    If you have access to another browser, other than IE (on the system, or one you can install), does the problem happen there as well?

    Another quick check is to add a . at the end of the url

    ex: www.videohelp.com. <--- make sure you add the . at the end

    this forces a dns lookup starting at the root domain name server. Sometimes dns caches can be obsolete or corrupt. Even if you clear the cache on your end, the dns server may have wrong information.

    Is a software firewall running? Try disabling it if running, and that's the problem if sites can then be accessed. I experienced this kind of problem with Zonealarm, and adding IP address for modem and router to "Trusted Sites" in the "Firewall" settings fixed it.

    1:

    Try installing ad-aware , update the database , and perform the basic scan , when done make sure all found item's are checked , and quarantine them ... when done , hit that lock button , and delete these backup's , and try the browser once more .

    2:

    Xp has it's own firewall , so if you are running any other's , disable them and see what happen's ... if all is well , you may have allowed that other firewall software to block certain feature's of the default browser ... check browser has full access and try again .

    3:

    In internet explorer , tool's , option's ... under security , internet , try using the default's , close browser , and try again .

    4:

    Another tool worth checking out is iefix found here : http://windowsxp.mvps.org , and other help that might be the trick to fixing you issue's .

    5:

    The tool's supplied with xp for cleaning out the internet cache are CRAP ...

    Go into window's explorer , tool's , folder option's ... view tab , go down to "hidden files and folders" , choose show hidden files and folders .

    Now you will beable to see all folder's on the pc in window's explorer ...

    Visit c:\documents and setting's\ "Your normal logon account"\local settings\temporary internet file's ... select all , hold down the shift key and select delete (may cause explorer to lock up) ... in this case wait 1 minute before forcing it to exit ... then take one more look in that folder to make sure it is cleared ... if not , repeat till cleaned out .

    Also open that plus symbol on the internet folder , and right click on any folder's listed under it , hold down the shift key and select delete ... do this till all are removed .

    They may appear to be still listed , in this case hit F5 to refresh explorer window , and continue to delete these folder's till are are gone .

    After this , it would be a good idea to right click on c drive , and set up scandisk ... this will require the pc to reboot , do so will refresh the system ... now try once more the browser .

    The reason you hold down the shift key is it bypass's the recycle bin , and they are permanently gone off the pc .

    Prot ... there is no "." after com .

    ========================================

    Installing mozilla browser or one of it's other known counterpart's has been known "not" to work as well , though worth a try .

    ========================================

    Finally , be aware you are at the mercy of your current isp which may be updating there service's , or have too many customer's packed into limited connection's / bulk purchased bandwidth... if all the above dose not help cure the issue , please contact your isp to check if they are currently updating service's which can cause this issue (they wont let you know unless you ask them) ... I have seen some crap service provider's before , and all local service's where channel'd into one main line from the phone company (telstra in au) ...
