    Hi all:

This may sound a stupid question but I have no problems in trancoding my AVI files into DVD and even adding subtitles .

However I am having problems when I got a movie on MPG format !!!.

Whats the best way to create a DVD (also adding subs) from a MPG file ??

I've been transcoding the MPG file into AVI with media coder, and I managed to coordinate the Subs with subtitle workshop, the only problem is that on the final movie the video is not synchronized with the audio (we can see actores speaking before their lips are moving)!!!.

    Pls help a newbie.

could you tell us the exact steps and what tools you are using.

and don't convert to avi and then to mpg, convert the mpg directly to dvd and add subs with for example convertxtodvd.

and this is not any advanced conversion. moving you.

    Hi Baldrick:

Sorry I posted at advanced conversion by mistake !!

Ok , as I'm using DIKO which is a free program (CONVERTXTODVD not) I first make a conversion
with MEDIA ENCODER because DIKO wont recognise the MPG file. (AH i must say that I add the subs when transcoding on media encoder) Once I have the Xvid file I follow the normal steps on DIKO to get the VIDEO_TS, and finally burn with Nero.

The result is not too bad but the synchronization is not perfect.
Someone adviced me to use DVD LAB but i found it rather complicated for me to use, and besides that it is also a paid program (useless for an amator like me).

divxtodvd is the old free version of convertxtodvd and it supports externals subs.

if the mpg is dvd compliant can you use dvd-lab pro...but is kinda complicated and expensive.

you could also use dvdauthorgui if the mpg is dvd compliant, demux/split the mpg to video and audio files using tmpgenc, file->mpeg tools, add the video, audio and subs in dvdauthorgui and author.

The best way is authoring with GFD (free application, support subtitles). If the dvd doesn't play in the dvd player, then direct reencoding to dvd compliant mpeg and then authoring.
DVD is MPG. You do not need to encode to avi. This is wrong way.
