I have an intel core solo mac mini that I have hooked up to my TV for a media center computer.

I'm looking for someone who has all the right codecs for playing back divx and xvid videos.

If i can get video to work, i never seem to have audio (mp3 or ac3).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome!
I was on my way out to get a cup o' joe,
but real quick I'll point you
to some codecs you will need:

    3ivx
    Divx 6
    AC3 for QT

that should pretty much get you started on playback.
Just follow the installers, in the last codec, AC3,
you will need to drag and drop it into your
    UserName/library/Quicktime folder,
    and restart the machine.

is there an intel version of 3ivx? and does the divx 6 play xvid? also with the ac3 codec, playback crashes front row.

Do you remember what it was like transitioning from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95? Add 11 years and be patient.

  6. You should try VLC 0.85 (universal) which will play almost everything, including sutitles and codecs like AC3 (dolby digital)

Another player which let you play all xvid, divx and other codecs is MPlayer OSX. It is easier to use imho but lack AC3 support for now and seems to be no longer in development...

The intel version of DiVX will play xvid files. The intel 3ivx codec isn't ready yet.

Maybe he wants to use FrontRow? Then some avi's will be a problem i think, since it uses quicktime.

  8. FrontRow will play .avi files with the DiVX 6.0 codec for intel (i'm doing it with my own mini) but you will loose subtitle and AC3 support...

I am trying out media central. It seems to be working pretty well. I hoped to use Front Row, but that seems to be a no go, for now at least.

  10. I can play Divx in Front Row, after installing the DivX 6.0 codec, but there's no audio...? VLC reports the audio codec of the file as a52?

    Try this;
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27300
It's supposed to work on Intels. I have it on my G4s and it works much better than the old one. Think I'll make a general post about it seeing as how it hasn't been mentioned here yet

Don't forget to remove the old AC3 component from the Library/QT folder and read the read me, it goes in a new location.

  12. Thanks! That solved audio playback in Quicktime 7.1, but not in Front Row...

edit. oops, works now I restarted and downloaded QT 7.1.1
