When making a backup of a pressed DVD9 disc do you need to set a layer break like you do with an authored disc, so can you just rip and burn?

You don't need to do anything, I believe (although I have never done this before).
Get DVD Decrypter and set it to "ISO Read". Rip the original. Then set it to "ISO Write" and burn it to the blank. -
Yup that's it...

No..., unless the original DVD9 is a PTP (Parallel Track Path) disc. If so, it's incompatible with recordable DVD+R DL's which are always OTP (Opposite Track Path). If it's PTP, then you'll need to set your own custom layer break if you want to make sure that it plays fine on all the players that are compatible with DL media. It can get somewhat complicated though if there are not enough chapters/cells. Currently there's absolutely no software, including DVD Decrypter/ImgBurn, that is able to make a proper backup of a PTP DVD9 disc (without some manual intervention). I tested it myself. I mean DVD Decrypter will make a perfect copy of a PTP disc, minus the layer break information - and that's where the trouble begins.Originally Posted by stantheman1976
PTP discs are more rare than OTP, but they are still around and the new ones are still being made. If you need a tested method on how to back them up correctly - I'll send you a link. Or simply search for it in my long thread dedicated to DVD+R DL burning and the layer break (it's towards the end of the thread).
