Installed XP pro on a 750mhz machine and booted fine. THen installed a 2nd HD and a usb2.0 pci card. Now it wont boot and says 'the file pci.sys is missing or corrupt'. My XP disc willnot boot even when the bios is set to boot from cd. I got to the selection screen and selected 'last good known working config' and that did no good. any ideas?

I would remove the usb 2 pci card. Reboot and see if it is the culprit. It the PC will then boot into windows with no issue, then change PCI slots and reinstall the card. Good Luck

Also may not hurt to check your motherboard disc and/or their website for a USB 2.0 driver. Dunno whether it will make any difference, but worth a shot.
    If in doubt, Google it.

sorry to cut ya short there, but you shouldnt even try it on anything under 1ghz...it will run like garbage....if i were you i'd revert back to like 2k if at all possible or 98.......cuz unless you got it chalked with like a gig of ram or so, it wont run very well...even with a bunch of the junk turned off..

I'll disagree on that one. My daughters machine is a 600MHz slot A Athlon with 512 MB of RAM and runs XP SP2 perfectly. It is a little slow to boot but other than that it keeps up with everything she throws at it. Complicated graphics or video work are horrendously slow, but for normal applications it's no problem at all.

this is really weird but here is how i got it working. I used a original XP pro dish to boot from CD. But when it would copy files over for setup it would error out cause it couldnt copy a file. "couldnt copy such and such file, setup cant continue". so what i did was restart and when it asked to boot from cd. i hit PAUSE, swapped out the original and inserted my copy of XP. then hit enter. Then all of a sudden it boots right into XP and DOESNT continue setup. Then i replaced the PSC.sys file and now it boots good everytime.

I have XP running smoothly on a dual boot system that is only a 450Mhz Pentium 2 with 512MB of 66mhz SDRAM. It runs without any problems with everything active.

Nonsense. I've had XP Pro running just fine on an old 700 mhz PIII with 512 mb of PC100 ram.
