I have downloaded a xvid movie clip and converted it using convertx to dvd but the audio is out on it.
I tried to open it in virtual dub mod but the preview screeen is green and as soon as I try to play the file vdubmod crashes.

How can I fix the audio problem, or at least fix the problem of it not opening in vdubmod.

    Gspot says the audio is 80 kb/s (40/ch, stereo) CBR 32000 Hz MPEGLAYER3 (MP3) (0x0055)
    and video is 4cc: XVID

It sounds like your Xvid codec is messed up. You might try reinstalling it. If you have installed any codec packs, they can cause codec problems also. If Gspot opens it, VirtualDub Mod should also. Can you play it on the computer with other programs?

Once you can get it into VDM, you should be able to fix the audio sync. Does the sync error gradually get worse or is it the same error the length of the video? If it's the same, you can apply a audio offset to it. If it drifts off, the video and audio may be different lengths. The most common cause is missing or corrupted video frames, which also may be why VDM is crashing. Don't try to play the file in VDM, just try to check for errors in the video.

The file plays no problerms in WMP and is in synch for the entire movie. It was only out of synch once I converted it to dvd using convertx to dvd.

I ran a scan of the movie in vdubmod and it said
168407 frames masked (1836 frames bad,162971 frames good but undecodable)
But as I said it plays ok as an avi.

    Any suggestions??

You could try cutting out the bad frames, but you may not have much left over. I have sometimes had luck re-encoding them with VDM.

If you can frameserve just the video to TMPGEnc from VDM, that may work. Save out the audio as a WAV first and use it for the audio source and use the audio adjustments in TMPGEnc to see if you can fix the sync there.
