    Hi all.

I read through a lot of the FAQ and the forums, but I didn't see anything that matches my question. I have several video clips of varied fle-type, and want to put them on a CD so they will play on a standalone DVD player for a friend.

The file-types I am concerned with are .avi, .mpg and .mpeg.

Is there a simple way just cut-n-paste a CD, or is this a more involved process?

    Any help will be appreciated.

you can make a vcd that will work on most standalone dvd players, use for example an all.in.one vcd converter like nerovision.

Haven't used it but this will do it: VCDEasy botha free and paid version.

Most DVD authoring programs will make them as well.

  5. Some DVD players will play mpgs or maybe even avi's if you are lucky but your best bet is to chuck em all into Nerovision and sit back and let it do the work.

Depends on the actual contents of the files, and on the type of player your friend has...

Info #1: ".mpg" and ".mpeg" are the SAME thing.
Info #2: ".avi" only tells you the container, not the contents. Is is DivX? Xvid? DV? Uncompressed? Cinepak? etc... (same Q's go for the audio portion of that file: MP3? AC3?, Uncompressed/PCM/WAV?, ADPCM? etc...)

In the best of all possible worlds for you--
IF your friend has a dvd player that plays DivX/Xvid AVI's and MPEG's on standard ISO/UDF Data discs, as well as the standard DVD/VCD/SVCD,
    and
IF your files are all DivX/Xvid-type AVI's and ~roughly compliant MPEG's,
THEN you should be able to copy and Burn a standard Data disc (CD or DVD)!
Make sure you use a standard CD/DVD burning app (Nero, RNM, DiscJuggler, Roxio, CDRWin, etc) and burning TAO/DAO, NOT burning as packets like Windows DLA or DirectCD does.

Problem is, that's alot of IF's, and when they aren't all there, you're going to end up having to find out what you actually have and CONVERT to a CE-compliant type (DVD/VCD/SVCD/DivX, etc). Time to put your reading glasses on!

Tell your friend to buy a Philips 642 and burn the files as data to either a CD or a cheap DVD. It is as easy as that. No converting anything. Just burn to disc with a program listed above and play.
