When I was a kid I had an Etch-A-Sketch and it was cutting-edge technology!

Today things are different. Cell phones, iPods, GPS,
computers, $200 remote controls, mp3 players, game boxes, etc.

Do you need every new-fangled gadget that appears on the market?

Yes I am but I do not neccessarily need to have EVERY new thing. Like all of you, I have a PC. I also got a cellphone (a razr), an iPod, a PocketPC (which I never use), a couple of digicams, an XBOX, an HDTV, HD-DVR, home theater system, and a gameboy micro.

Yeah, but he's not here anymore.

I'm sure a Mac is a form of personal computer.

I used to buy every brand new gizmo as soon as it hit the store shelf. Now I wait for the second, third or 4th generation before I spend my $$$ because it's cheaper and better.

  11. There was a time that I was on the bleeding edge of every new gadget that came out, but not anymore. I now only purchase what I have an actual need for. I have enough devices that I thought were cool, but now just sit around doing nothing, and most of them have been abandoned by the manufacturers. No driver or software updates, etc.

    Edit:

He's still around, (although not as often), he just resigned as a mod.

I tend to buy only the gadgets I have a need for but then as soon as this excuse to buy something arises I go nuts with it. Items such as my new Vaio lapper with Centrino Duo and dual video cards, my Sanyo MM-9000 cell with an ultimately useful Garmin GPS application and more, my old 60GB iPod Photo (the last one to support FireWire) that carries 6 different Ghost images (I use it for re-imaging our different PCs at work), and aside from technology I also have my Pasquini Livia 90 espresso machine. I have all sorts of others but all those were in sight of me as I wrote this (from my new Vaio no less).

I'm considering getting one of the new video iPods since I travel so much and pulling out the laptop to watch movies in-flight on shorter domestic trips is nowhere near as easy as pulling out the iPod, and it has a much longer battery life for when I'm not in a seat with a DC outlet. Yes, I understand there are other media players out there but find me one with the capacity, battery life, and small size of a 60GB iPod video that also plays music, pulls photos off your camera, can listen to FM radio, supports the iCal standard (it synchs with my Sunbird calendars), and can still be used as a large USB disk.

I am still trying to get two sticks to make fire.

I usually wait until they become more utilitarian (is that a word?) That is to say, I wait until I have a good use for them.

    Ooooooh, Fire, hot!
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

When I was a kid this is the only gadget I ever wanted:

a Japanese 6 transistor AM radio.

To this day it's the only gadget that I've ever owned. I carry no cell phone, no I-Pod, no MP3 player, no GPS, no notebook PC, no Blackberry it's all annoying garbage to me.
