This has me pulling my hair out, so please help me before I go bald (I estimate another 48 hours!).

Using Roxio Easy DVD copy V7.0.1.84 I can copy DVD to DVD with no problems on Ritek G05 blanks.

However, If I copy a disk image folder to DVD (onto the same Ritek DVDs) then the DVDs do not play in my home player.

However + 1: If I then use Roxio to copy the "bad" DVD directly to another DVD (again, the same Ritek blanks) it works!

Does Roxio use a different copying method when copying from DVD to DVD and DVD image to DVD?

    Mike.

    PC Setup:

    Windows XP Pro
    Intel P4 3ghz
    1 gig RAM
    2 x Pioneer 110 DVD writers

  2. If you copy any bad image to a disc, it is going to be bad as the image. Because it is a mind-less bit by bit copy.

If you copy the files/folders to the HD, then copy back to a disc, then it will work if the defects is fixabled. Because file format does include error correction, that allow the software to fix minor error, and detect all all errors.

This built in technique is also use on your digital music, TV, telephone, cell, RAM... So, leave your hair alone.

It's definitely not a bad image problem. This problem occures with EVERY image file I have ever tried with Roxio (approx 60+ at the last count).

  4. Where are your image files come from ? Can you take a look at the folders and files of the disc with this image and see do they conform to DVD standrad or not ?

They are coming from various sources, and to repeat myself; if I then backup the BAD dics with DVD to DVD using Roxio then they work so they must conform.

For copying video, I suggest using dvdshrink, dvdcrypter, and/or dvdfabdecrypter, or anydvd with clonedvd. Using these allows for almost idiot proof copying of video dvd's. If you are copying software dvd's use clonedvd or alcohol 120. For data dvd's, etc. use Roxio, Nero, ImgBurnf, etc...

If you are doing a straight copy...stop wasting your time with stuff like Roxio and/or Nero.
Just because you own or paid for the software does NOT mean you need to use it or that it is the best tool for the job.
DVDDecrypter - ISO Read then ISO Write(it's also a burner in case you didn't know)....simple.

The image I'm burning is not and ISO. It's in the following format:

    AUDIO_TS (empty)

    VIDEO_TS (contains....)

    VIDEO_TS.BUP 14KB
    VIDEO_TS.IFO 14KB
    VIDEO_TS.VOB 54KB
    VTS_01_0.BUP 38KB
    VTS_01_0.IFO 38KB
    VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,574KB
    VTS_01_2.VOB 448,600KB
    VTS_02_0.BUP 38KB
    VTS_02_0.IFO 38KB
    VTS_02_1.VOB 1,048,574KB
    VTS_02_2.VOB 455,236KB
    VTS_03_0.BUP 38KB
    VTS_03_0.IFO 38KB
    VTS_03_1.VOB 1,048,574KB
    VTS_03_2.VOB 445,722KB

Of course I could convert the above to an ISO image and then burn it to a DVD using DVDdecrypter, but that would double or triple the time.

  9. Image to most people means iso image.

DVD video is not just folders on DVD, it has a specific format. Thus in Nero, or Roxio, and , you need to use create DVD option to made a working DVD.

Nothing went wrong. You just have to figure out the detail. You just need to figure what are the different formats means. This site has a "What is" section, that will help you.

In that case....if Roxio is proving to be uncooperative...try the 30 day free trial version of Prassi Ones. Small and inexpensive program...and it has a simple "Burn VIDEO_TS Folder" option. Don't get me wrong...I used to love Roxio stuff....BEFORE they got into DVD burning....now it is a waste of time....as you are finding out.

STILL....if you are doing nothing but a straight copy....use DVDDecrypter....especially if the DVD you are copying is not dual layer.

I'd guess that the extra time isn't really a factor. At 8x that means an extra 15 minutes to make the iso.

How much time have you wasted making bad copies and trying to figure out what the problem is with Roxio? How many disks could you have converted to iso's in that time?

I put a single layer disk in my drive, start Decrypter and I have an iso 15 minutes later. If I have the files already on my HD I start Imgtool and I have an iso less than 3 minutes later. What's taking 30-60 minutes?
