  1. Hello all. My buddy and I are creating our own interactive board game. You know the ones you play while having a video run on the TV which gives you commands. For those who played such board games you know what I'm talking about. I know a couple scripting languages that would allow me to develop the portion of the game that would be displayed on the TV and at certian moments it would give the players random commands, that's no problem. The only thing I don't like about this is a PC would have to be connected to the TV whenever you would want to play, not everyone has a PC connected to a TV unfortunately. I was thinking about putting it in DVD format. DVD's are interactive and are based on a script language. I don't know the DVD script language but I am definitely willing to learn it as long as I know it'll do what I need it to do before I start hitting the books .

You guys know a lot more about the DVD script language than I do, so maybe if you guys can tell me if it's possible or not to do what I want so I know whether or not it's worth pursuing this idea on this format.

    1) The video will need to display a count down timer. This timer will not be linear, it may jump up or down randomly depending on the situation

    2) Commands will pop up on the screen at random intervals , probably as images or sub-title text to notify the player of the action to take

    3) This command will be followed by a short audio or video clip

The problem with these type of games is they are for the most part linear. You watch from start to end and play the game. I want to make it more interesting, and randomize things. I am not sure if the DVD script language allows for randomly playing pre-scripted audio/video or sub-title material or not.

If this can be accomplished please let me know so I know it's worth pursuing, otherwise I'll stick with my PC script idea thank you

Have a look at DVd Lab Pro's site www.mediachance.com
DVd Lab Pro has wizards for basic quiz types games, but it may give you an idea of what's involved. I suspect that any serious DVD based games are created using Dvd Studio Pro on a Mac or perhaps Scenarist (although I don't know what's it's scripting capabilities are)
