I am looking for a nice camcorder, spending $1,000-$1,500,,,

should i buy a hdminidv or just minidv?

i will be editing the videos.

i would think hdminidv since hd dvd players are going to be the future right?

and good camcorders you can recommend?

    thanks in advance

Umm do you mean HD=High Def or HD=Hard Disc?

MiniDV is Standard Def 720x480 (DV format)

HDV is a High Def (1440x1080i or 1280x720p) MPeg2 based format.
HDV camcorders often record DV format as well. The same tape is used.

For $1,000-$1,500 you could afford a 3CCD SD camera (like the Panasonic GS-400 or 500) or a single CMOS sensor HDV (like the Sony HC3)

    See www.camcorderinfo.com for reviews.

The HC3 makes a good picture in standard DV format as well but not as good as the GS-400. If you intend to watch mostly on a high end HDTV, the HC3 will be your best bet long term. HDV will have the disadvantage of much slower processing (editing, effects, filtering, encoding) on a computer. Also, you will need to invest in a HD DVD player and authoring system unless you just play the tapes from the camcorder.

HDV will be the mid level high def format for a few years. A new MPeg4 based format AVCHD has just been announced for future delivery. I think it will be a couple of years before that format is competitive with HDV.
