Hi all...
I recently got a new computer (athlon x2 +4200) and for some unknown reason there seems to be a problem when i try to play certain .avi files. I use the same programs i used in my previous computer, windows media player and powerDVD 6. All files play OK in media player, the problem occurs in powerDVD. It plays DVDs with no problems and i can play some avi files but there are some avi movies that it doesn't play. It doesn't display any error message it just begins at 00:00:00sec and never continues the playback. I never found out what the problem was cause i figured i will play with media player what i can't with power DVD.
Today, though, i tried using subtitle workshop and the same problem occured during the video preview... and that's a problem i can't ignore cause i need to use it to adjust subtitles in several movies.
I really hope someone here understands what the problems is. The only other clue i can give, which i'm not even sure is related, occures in the program VirtualDub. When i try to open some (doesn't happen with all of them) of the avi movies that powedDVD can't play i get the message:
"VirtalDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to XXXX ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio strem to an incompressed WAV file and recompress with a CBR encoder."
Like i said this doesn't happen with all the problematic avi files and it even happens to some that play on powerDVD, so maybe there not a connection. However, when VirtualDub opened these files after it supposedly it had "rewrited the audio with CBR values" i saved the avi file and it played fine on powerd DVD but with a very long audio delay.

Ok i figured out what the problem was...
It seems that powerDVD couldn't play all the movies for which i had subtitles for. I had installed Vobsub which everytime i tried to play one of those movies automatically loaded and displayed subtitles if you had a subtitle file. Seems like for some reason it came to conflict with powerDVD and subtitle workshop. I uninstalled and reinstalled vobsub and now they work fine.
