    Hi all,

    First question:

I have two movies with "built-in" subtitles that have lost those subs upon conversion to divx/avi.

By "built-in", I mean movies like "The Godfather" or "Dances with Wolves" that have subtitles when a language other than English is spoken.

I had assumed that the subtitles were inserted during the editing of the films, so thus would be an integral part of it. After all, they only appear when English isn't spoken. Am I wrong here? How do I correct this?

BTW, In some cases, explanatory on-screen text is also missing, i.e. "Sicily, 1924. The village of Corleone."

    Second question:

I've just searched for sub files for "The Beast of War" (parts of the film are in Afghani), but the only ones I've found are for a single file - mine is split into two files. Can anyone suggest a good site or downloading subtitles?

    Thanks!

    Yes, AutoGK.

Just out of curiousity, on the original studio masters are the subtitles on a seperate track from the film, like the audio? I had always assumed they were integrated somehow into the film track during editing.

Anyway, do I need to specifically enable subtitles when ripping a movie like "The Godfather" or "The Longest Day" (partially in German)? How would I tell it not to sub the English bits?

    Thanks for the help

For textsubs, use SubRip and enable forced subs only. Do the same with VSRip for vobsubs.
