CDEXTRA MODE BURNING NOT SUPPORTED ON THE PIONEER DVR-109

I recently asked the following question to Pioneer: I have the Pioneer DVR-109 DVD Writer with Firmware 1.57, When Burning a CDEXTRA Mode CD it always fails, it burns the audio lead-in, then data, then audio lead-out, & always fails on burning the data lead-in. Is it possible to burn a mixedmode or cdextra cd with this writer???? thanks

Pioneer told me that this writer does not support CDEXTRA Burning, Strange because I used to have the Pioneer DVR-106 which DID support it!.

I tried the Pioneer DVR-109 in Nero under the SIMULATION MODE as a CDEXTRA Disc & it Wrote it Succesfully! (BIZARRE!!!!), but failed when it acctually burn't it.

It seems like its 1 step forward & two steps back, I was considering buying the new Pioneer DVR-110 but I am now NOT SURE as this writer will probably NOT do something that the Pioneer DVR-109 did !

Does anyone know of a DVD writer that write DUAL LAYER & Also Write CD CDEXTRA ? ? ? ? ? ? ?.

I have asked Pioneer to consider CDEXTRA in the next FIRMWARE Patch for the Pioneer DVR-109, but I won't hold my breath.

Anyone know a way to Patch the Firmware to allow burning of CDEXTRA with this drive?

    Thanks

  2. I'm only speculating but did you try burning a image in nero and then burning the image to CD? I have to say I've never tried it but I suppose it could work.

How are you attempting to do this? Try Nero and follow directions in the 3rd post here:

  4. This seems pretty strange, as an enhanced cd (or CD Extra) is nothing but a multi-session cd - with audio tracks in the first session and a data track in the second.

    If the drive can:
    1. write the first audio track session
    2. close the session (but leave the disc open)
    3. write the data track session
    4. close the disc
it can burn an enhanced cd (or CD Extra).

What software are you using to do this? If your software permits you running the above steps in separate actions, you can make an Enhanced cd yourself in those separate steps.

    Reply:

I used CloneCD, Alcohol120% and Nero v6 to do this & ALL failed at the same point just as it wrote ther lead-in for the data section.

Strange thing is, that a MIXEDMODE disc will burn ok, but not a CDEXTRA disc ?*?*?*?* !!!!

Not sure how you can leave the disc open when burning the first session manually as it would be in AUDIOCD burning mode & there is no option in Nero to leave a disc open when burning an AUDIOCD that would play on a stand alone cd player.

    Any other ideas?

The only reason I did not buy a Pioneer burner was the fact that they do not recognize 800MB CD-R's either so this doesn't surprise me.
What a shame...I hope they change their minds soon.

i'm happy enough with this one liteon refers to as a superdrive. supports darn near everything and the kitchen sink for under $50 u.s.

only thing that bugs me is that it doesn't like t.y. dvdr media at all. only media it coasters, and frequently.

  8. They also have a slightly cheaper model without the Lightscribe that has all the other features.

I put the non lightscribe version into a new computer I did for myself.

You are right it seems to burn most everything I feed it nicely although I didn't try Ty's. Are you sure they are genuine tys? I even ran some Princos I had laying around.

One thing I noticed is that Nero never shows a burn speed under 4X even on 1-4X discs. On some Sony media the the Pioneer 109 shows as 4X, 6X, 8X, 12X it only shows 6X & 8X. I may even pick up some DVD RAM for long term data backup.
