  1. Hi everybody,

I have a MPG sequence (640x480) taken with my digital camera (Sony DSC-W1) that I'd like to encode (e.g. to XVID) using ffmpegX.

But the most important thing is that I'd like to rotate it clockwise in order to obtain a 480x640 sequence.

How can I do that ??

    Thanks in advance,

    Jose

  2. BUMP (can someone answer please ? )

  3. ffmpegX has no rotation filter, you should try to use Quicktime Player for that, by converting to some format first and when your video has been rotated, convert it back to your final format.

  4. I have tried that already, but f I rotate the .mpg sequence with Quicktime then save it, Quicktime will convert it to the .mov format, and ffmpegX won't read it... so what Quicktime options would you recommend ?

(maybe it would be a good idea to include a very simple 90/180/270° rotation filter in future ffmpegX versions ?)

  5. Yes, it is in the to-do list. About converting to Quicktime, make sure that you use a codec like MJPEG A which can be recognized by ffmpegX.

  6. Thanks major. I've followed your instructions, but I'm not sure to be able to use that codec ! Please let me explain :

My original sequences are all MPEG-1 multiplexed --> see http://hidalgoj.free.fr/sequenceproperties.jpg

If I try to export them with Quicktime, here's the codec list --> see http://hidalgoj.free.fr/codeclist1.jpg

If I choose "Sequence to Quicktime", here's the second codec list --> see http://hidalgoj.free.fr/codeclist2.jpg

I see a codec called "Animation JPEG A"... but it doesn't seem to allow me to record sound ! --> see http://hidalgoj.free.fr/exportdialog.jpg

    What can I do ?

  7. Indeed, it is true that QT Player can't transcode sound if the source is a MPG file. I advise to use MPEG Streamclip in this case.

  8. All right ! MPEG Streamclip... I should have thought of it myself. I had already v1.2 and I found it quite useful.

However, I don't think that MPEG Streamclip can rotate sequences (can it ?). That means I will have to :
    - Open my MPEG-1 multiplexed with Quicktime,
    - Rotate it,
    - Save it as a .mov,
    - Open the .mov with MPEG Streamclip,
    - Convert it to .avi.

Or, since MPEG Streamclip doesn't seem to support XVID :
    - Open my MPEG-1 multiplexed with Quicktime,
    - Rotate it,
    - Save it as a .mov,
    - Open the .mov with MPEG Streamclip,
    - Save it as a MPEG,
    - Open the .mpg with ffmpegX,
    - Save it as a .avi

What do you think ? Am I right ? Can I do better than that ? I think I'm going crazy with all this...

  9. I think both processes should work.

  10. Thanks major. Anyway, I think my example shows how much progress has to be made yet by some software developers (why doesn't Quicktime allow conversion to .mpg ??).

So in order to convert a MPEG-1 multiplexed to a common XVID, I'm going to need to do this : MPEG-1 multiplexed -----> .mov -----> .mpg -----> .avi

Quite incredible in 2006 IMHO... is that specific to Apple ? Maybe our PC folks have some kind of 'swiss knife' piece of software that can do all this easily. I'd love to know that.

Thanks again for your help !
