This is a USB 2.0 HD tuner for the European market that picks up Freeview signals. Just plug this in to your laptop and way you go. The AverTV DVB-T Volar was announced about a month ago but is now available for purchase around the 'net for about £55. The little tuner comes with a little antenna

  4. I can't speak for the US & Japanese market but almost every where else you are going to struggle for a decent signal. Keep in mind existing digital broadcasts by law, operate at a lower power level to reduce interference to redundant analogue networks. Hence in part the rush and interest for digital mobile solutions, currently at final phase testing in Europe, Australia & the US.

I might have to pick one of those up, I need a new freeview box anyway so I might as well get this.

My Curtis DVD1084 has a USB device slot that apparently works for some people. Mine has the plastic slot cut wrong so I shall have to get out the Dremel Mototool and shave it down a bit so the connector will work.

Hmmm...decided to try it by bending the connector a bit and it accepted the 256 Meg pen drive right away. Displayed the test jpegs I loaded up onto the pen drive no problem. I suspect it will work fine with DivX and Xvid AVIs as well...

I can receive all my local stations in and substations in HDTV with a 12 year old pair of rabbit ears on both my 50 inch DLP and computer capture card (I bought a new pair for the computer). All US commercial stations now broadcast both digital and analoque signals, and according to the Federal Communications Commission, 85% of the population are within range of a digital signal. All of our analoque stations go dark in 20 months so we will be purely digital soon enough. From what I gather on this board, there are not any other countries planning a drop dead date for complete digital turnover, so it will be interesting to see how long that conversion takes.

Not that I have tried it, but perhaps the VLC Media Player would work maybe?
