    I would like to know what you would say about this video:
    Xvid file; rendered at Quantizer5 - one pass;
    Multiplexed with an MP3 file at 128 kbps 44 Hz;
    NTSC progressive at 29,97;
    File is about 21,9 MB.

    Thanks in advance.

    i am not crazy about the font used for the title ...

    images are nice - 3d and depth are great , except the plant (mars?) reddish surface looked a little to flat with the texture map used ..

    you have some problems in encoding some high motion scenes -- see one of my screen shots below of a problem area (last pic)

    do you need to repeat the title 3 times ?

    Thanks to you both who have responded...
    Abbadon, there are your pics - thanks for them, BJ_M.
    About the codec: I tried Xvid at one pass and Quantizer5 (don't know why but Xvid with 2-pass encoding never worked for me).
    The result at Q5 is this one: some macro or small blocks since the codec can't "follow" the action on the screen. Xvid at Q2 with one pass produces a much better result. Thanks for the input and your remarks, BJ_M.
    BTW, I've got one question: does a real AVI (uncompressed) have its own alpha channel as a Targa or a TIFF file? Or .. is the alpha channel rendered in an independent file such as it is in After Effects when you choose (RGB + Alpha)?
    Thks in advance.
    PS:
    do you need to repeat the title 3 times ?
    -I wanted to make sure everybody could read it lol lol lol.

    Not bad, although some of the edits seemed to be too quick. Some of the fly-bys etc would have benefitted from being held for a just a few extra seconds. As they stand they seem to jar for no reason. The galaxy in the first shot seems out of place. The parallax is wrong, and it feels like it is just an image on a card sliding down the screen.

    The audio is distorted for me, but that is probably just because it is mp3.

    I don't believe uncompressed avi has an alpha channel (I could be wrong), but some codecs do support one. I would stick with TGA files when rendering effects or 3d though. It has several advantages over rendering to avi or another video format. These include

    1. Being able to restart a render at any point without having to do it all again

    2. Being able to touch up single frames if necessary. If the change is minor, you can often do it in photoshop.

    I only render to avi for quick tests. Finished work is always to tga.

    Thanks for the screen shots.

    The image showing the robot is beatiful, but I am not a great fan of the XVid codec, those macroblocks in the final shot are pretty evident.

    Have you tried DivX ?

    -I might agree with you, the action seems pretty fast. More than it should be.

    The galaxy in the first shot seems out of place.
    -The first shot? That was not a galaxy, it was a nebula (lol lol) and this was done with Flame an excellent and free plug-in for AE

    The parallax is wrong, and it feels like it is just an image on a card sliding down the screen.
    -Where is it, pls? You mean the planets? Yes, you are right; they are nothing but 2D images; were made in Photoshop. Please note that George Lucas did the same thing right at the beginning of the Phantom Menace - that big planet is a 2D planet - totally montionless.

    The audio is distorted for me, but that is probably just because it is mp3.
    -Yes, you're right. Sorry for that. Thanks for your remarks and for the explanation on the alpha channel.

    Abbadon, thanks so much for your remarks. On the other hand, I do prefer Xvid; it is free and I guess it's much better than Divx :P It was rendered at Q5, if it were rendered at Q2 it would look muuuuch better!

    And the most important:
    Thanks to Crook for his M. Falcon and R2D2;
    Nabad Goksu for his own Whitestar;
    Fabio Pássaro for the Imperial Destroyer
    and some objects from the LW Library.
    This is a Fan "Film" - and that means a Non-Commercial video

    Cheers and thanks for downloading the video
