I'm searching for a freeware capture program that allows me to make "stop-motion" capture using a USB webcam. It must capture any number of still pictures from a webcam and in the end must save them as an AVI file compressed with any codec available in my system. Actually, I used to do it using Adobe Premiere 6.0 which has stop-motion capture, but using as source a camcorder connected to my capture card (analog video input). But now I need to use a USB webcam (digital video input) and Premiere 6.0 doesn't recognize the webcam (unless there is a plug-in available in the net to correct it that I don't know about).

Anyway, the capture software must have a "capture" buttom to click on it with a mouse (for synchronization with a film projector) so the use of the hardware buttom of the webcam is out of question (it only takes isolated snapshots that must be saved manually).

Thanks in advance for any help!

  2. I had a go of this years ago and got some meagre results, but I didn't persue animation. IIRC it does the things that you are after.

I hope that this is helpful.

Nice little program, unfortunately it has the same problem of Premiere 6.0: it doesn't recognize USB webcams, only capture cards... and I must use a webcam because it's very easy to project an image directly to its CCD in order to get the best quality for telecining. With video cameras it's very hard to get them apart for reaching their CCDs...

  4. That is really odd. The only thing that I used with this program was a USB webcam.

Take a look at CaptureFlux - it recognises my USB webcam and it can capture stills. I've never used it for what you want to do, but I figured it can't hurt to mention it...

    Good luck.

Maybe because your OS is Win2K, mine is Win98se. Go figure...
