Hello all, pardon if I have the wrong forum.

I have a P4 (3g) with 1g Ram and two brand new 16x DVD burners (Memorex and Samsung). I have just received a burned Memorex DVD-R (white coating) that neither drive will recognize. However, the same disc will play with no problems in my Aphex DVD player. Other discs, DVD-R and DVD+R work fine.

I am unable to get DVD Fab, DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to even look at the disc, so the disc is itself exhibiting some kind of error problem that affects hardware and/so software on a pc, but not on a stand alone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to cover all bases before telling the "donor" that I need another copy from him.

    Cheers and thanks

    Hello all

The disc is a DVD-Video compilation of musical performances by Genesis. Neither of my pc drives will recognize the disc (the busy light goes for a long time and than stops) and I am unable to see what files are on there. Since it works on my standalone, I presume, perhaps in error, it is the standard Audio and Video TS folders and files.

I will try the ISO buster at home later.

    Cheers and thanks

    Hi,

I am afraid you will have to flash your DVD-Rom drive with a new firmware in order to be able to read writable DVD media.

First of all, be very, very careful before you proceed.

Go to the manufacturer website and see if they have issued a firmware to support DVD+R or DVD-R media, they should also provide a flashing utility. If you don't know how to do this, don't do it, your DVD-Rom could be damaged permanently if you make a mistake the first time.

There was also a website with a vast collection of firmwares compatibles with several brands of DVD drives, but I can't remember the address.

    Hello all

Well, small steps, no good. I just tried the latest version of Isobuster, and all it declared was that the disc was blank. It still runs on my standalone Aphex....urggg. But many thanks for the tips. I believe I will avoid the firmware

    Cheers and many thanks
