  1. As I my work is transferring videos, dv etc. taken from parties, weddings, conferences... to DVDs. How do I prevent my customers from duplicating using simple buring softwares like Nero etc..

I know that there are many softwares that can be used to crack the protection but I need some form of simple protection preventing any Tom, Dick & Harry from copying it easily by using Nero.

    Thank you.

  3. Sorry....... and thanks I've read that.......... Too many replies in that post have gone off track.

Let's say I've made a master copy, ripped it with softwares like DVDxCopy etc. and burned it into a disc. Is there a ripping/copy software where the disc can only be duplicated using the same ripping software but not other softwares like Nero?

    Thanks

No. There is commercial protection, which you pay for by the copy (macrovision, CSS, rip-gaurd etc) - none of which stop anyone smart enough to find this site, or some of the more esoteric suggestions from the aforementioned post. Honestly, there is no way to stop a determined person from copying it. And for most people, if they can't do it themselves, they know someone who can.

And really, who is going to go around making hundreds of ripped copies of a wedding video ?

If you want to stop honest people from copying it, put "Do not copy" on the disc. Anyone else will beat it if they want to.

  6. In that case...... I'll just make the video files bigger into DVD9 so that any Tom, Dick & Harry will need to purchase the more expensive DVD9 discs inorder to copy it.

Let's hope that they are not that intellegent to look for softwares like DVD Shrink to copy it.

I thought everyone who buys a DVD burner knows about DVD Shrink. If they don't I am sure they know someone who will explain to them how easy it is to utilize. DVD9's are not that expensive especially when you consider the nature of the videos you work with and the reasons the customer might want to have multiple copies. I still know people who pay a buck a copy for photos.
