Ok i have a sports dvd that someone on my team put together using imovie. It was then authored and looks fine when playing the vob's off the computer. I then burn it and on a pc it still looks good but when i play it in a console (dvd player -tried more than one, ps2, xbox) there is a like a shadowing or trailing. I have tried differnt discs i am using TDK's mainly. I was searching posts and one in particular stuck out. It said that f you have a high bit rate 9000 (my video size 1gb) as i do (its 9000) that a pc can keep up with it because the hardware is better but consoles typically only have 4x dvd rom drives. Do you think that this is the problem i am having if so how can i decrease the bit rate with out compromising the great video quality i currently have. The theory of the solution stated makes sense but the in reality it doesn't seem to b/c i thought oem dvd releases are at 9000 bit rate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gabe

DVD has a maximum bitrate or 10080kbps combined audio and video. It has little to do with playback speed of the drive, as any player that displays the DVD Video logo must be able to comply with this. Some players may not read as well from burned media, so some here recommend a combined maximum of 9800 kbps or even lower.
Regardless, this would not produce the trails you say you are seeing.
Question - if the original way created in iMovie on a Mac, how did you recieve it ? Do you have an original DVD, or just the files ? If you have the original DVD, how does it look when played ? What process/software have you used to duplicate it ?Read my blog here.

it came in as a .dv from the mac. i used "divx to dvd" to author it. It was one of the only progs that would for some reason Nero Vsiosn had audio sysncing problems. And i cant install premiere 2.0 mecause i have an athlon mp which doesn't support ss2 extensions. The originals all seem to run fine. I also tried burning at a lower speed, dont know if it makes dif but just wanted to add that in. all i have is the .dv

kinda sounds like you have the field order reversed when you encoded to DVD. You would only ever notice that on an interlaced display like a standard television.
change that .dv file to an .avi if it's possible and re-encode. -
I also have this problem with a taped live musical performance. Whenever there is a closeup shot on the singer, it trails. I havent tried reversing the field order yet though...i have tried authoring in 2 different softwares. I am simply burning an MPG-2 file...has reversing the field order resolved your issue?
