In some of the videos I have downloaded the rewind and fast forward function doesn't work. It just plays the video. Is there any way to fix this. Is Media Player Encoder something I should use for this?

I think in ASF/WMV/WMA, there's a flag to disable seeking, but I'm not sure about any other filetypes. It's also possible, yes, that there's a problem in the video. What video formats are you experiencing the problem with? If AVI, you can always load the video into VirtualDub (or another AVI checker) and scan the video stream for errors.

It's ASF. Should I try and convert it to WMV or AVI? I don't even know how to do all that stuff!

You can use ASFTools (I don't know if ASFBin, or other tools, will do both) to scan the ASF for errors and change the flag to make it seekable.
I could never get ASFTools to convert an ASF to AVI, though. Maybe that's improved in the more recent versions (I haven't had to do anything with it for about 2-3 years, and on Win9X/ME).If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
