I have several avi files that are downloaded bittorrents. My problem is I can view them with the VLC Media Player and they look great, however any on other player I use or converter (to convert to DVD i.e. DVD Santa) the video looks all scrambled and somewhat digitized. Does anyone know how I can get past this and create either a DVD or Video CD from these files.

Also, when I move these files to my Creative Zen Vision M (I highly recommend this over the Apple Video IPOD) the files look great.

    Any help is appreciated...

uninstall all codec packs and only install the codecs you need, identfy avis with gspot,avi2clipboard,avicodec,...or try ffdshow.

    and try convert with divxtodvd.

Start with g-spot 2.52b beta. Post a screenshot so we can see what you have. VLC has it's own codecs, so it doesn't rely on you having the right ones installed. Most convertors require that you have the codecs installed. If you don't have them, or have an old version, you might get unpredictable results.

Also, VLC is designed to be a very robust player - you can playback partially downloaded or incomplete videos with it. This means it can also often playback corrupt videos.

Encoders, on the otherhand, need every bit of data to be present and accounted for. So what VLC might play, and encoder might just throw up it's hands at. Such is the price of downloading.
