A silly question, yes, but how much space do you have free on the drive where you're saving the movie? Is it the same drive that holds all your temp files (such as the Windows virtual-memory swapfile), and any intermediate files WMM might be creating while working?
How much memory do you have on the system?
As a starting rule, I'd probably recommend you have at least twice as much space as the original movie you're trying to convert, even if you're attempting to make it smaller.
Edit: Also, does the movie contain DRM? I don't know if WMM would react like that if the source movie did contain DRM, but I figured I should ask.If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
60 gb free space and it is an .mpg video captured straight to my computer, 2gb of memory. It happens with any .mpg file. Like I said, none of those warnings apply to my situation. Thanks just the same.

Something similar happened to me. I don't know if this will help but I moved the original file and for some reason it worked.

Hello again, zoob, yep I've treid that. Now what it's doing is all the icons on my desktop flicker for a few seconds that I get the message that "Windows has experienced a problem...".

I ran into this trying to save a Mjpg video from my still camera. In my case it was because I didn't have the right codec and Windows Movie Maker gave me that 'No space' error instead of just saying that it couldn't read the file in the first place.
So in your case, do you have a MPEG-2 codec installed? Can you play the file in WMM? What's Gspot 2.52 say about the video? -
As I remember, you couldn't import an avi to wmm, either. Every once in a blue moon, the mobo, graphics card, or something else doesn't jive.
You could ask at http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/ 's help room to see if there's a conflict somewhere. -
Have you messed with the free Windows Media Encoder? You'll probably get the same errors until the conflict is resolved but there are some extra options that may work.

Also, it might be worth it to try a different (other than WMM and WME) encoder to convert to the target WMV... if it fails, then perhaps it'll give a better idea of what went wrong than the sometimes-rather-obscure Microsoft error messages. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -

Actually, though, I meant try other converters than just TMPGEnc (Express
)... if no other converters are having problems converting the MPEG to WMV, however, it could be just WMM/WME being picky/tempremental. Other than that, I couldn't guess.
I'd have thought GSpot 2.52beta would have shown a little more detail on the original MPEG file, though. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
