SUPER would be a good program for you, I think. If you look over to the left-hand side of your screen, you'll see the "How To" section. Look under "Convert" and you can find guides on how to use it.
If SUPER doesn't suit you, look in the Tools section and find the drop-down menu that is labelled "Tool Features". Find the conversion you'd like (won't be hard - it's right at the top!) and search for all the tools that can do that.
Good luck (and nice phone)!

I prefer Nokia MultiMedia Converter 2 - free download if you register at their developer site - It creates the only 3gpp files my phone (SEP800) can play, and has succeeded with every source file I've tried so far.

Well 3gp is 3gp. That is the point of having open specs. If a player follows the specs and an encode follows the specs, then there are no problems. So either the other encoders/muxers you tried aren't spec compliant or Nokia is doing something funny.

I'd say my phone doesn't play all flavors of 3gpp. I can understand that old P800 doesn't do all kinds of 3gpp, since it was among the first phones with any kind of video playback worth mentioning, but in fact, the same goes for my daughters pretty recent SE J300i - It also only plays the Nokia MM Converter 3gp files - Not anything I've managed to create with SUPER. I guess the SE player software only supports a subset of 3gp

Thanks all i'll try cobras idea 1st sounds good,is it easy enough to use mate?Theres very little in the way of 3gp stuff available is there however most fones seem to use either 3gp or mp4, if it was mp4 i'd not have a problem as I could use videora ipod convertor but doesn't seem to have the right format in that program. Celtic druid maybe the resolutions different eh? could be a possibility i'm thinking since different fones use a different res screen I imagine?

Using the Nokia profile in SUPER, I created a small test 3GP movie a few weeks ago. It played fine on the PC, but the audio was out of sync on my Nokia 6102 (bleah
). Other than that, though, it seemed to work.

Yeah I had noticed the GUI is a bit shadey to be honest, got no status or progress notification other than the endlessly continuous progress bar that keeps going across the screen but then its free & thats what I wanted so really we cant moan can we?did one 550Mb file on it in under 1 hour which isn't bad for this old machine so it'll probably fly on my other machine, thanks for all the replies guys & girls problem solved you've been a great help. Try 3GP Converter. I use it all the time, and it looks great and doesnt seem to have Sync probs unlike all the other software Ive tried such as Nokia Multimedia Converter and SUPER and even better its free !
It has various options to make it compatible with various phone makes. -
Will give it a look cheers Andy
, we love free software its the way ALL software should be isn't it?

Do any of these conversion programs handle 16:9 video (1.2 pixel aspect ratio)? Basically when it does the down conversion to 3G2, it needs to adjust for the 1.2 pixel aspect ratio. I tried ImToo 3GP Video Converter and it doesn't appear to handle that. The resulting video looks squeezed. Same with Super. There is an aspect ratio setting in Super, but it doesn't apper to change anything.

SUPER will convert 16:9 as letterboxed. I have a Nokia 6280, and have found that I get the best quality (although larger files sizes) using the Nokia template, but using mpeg-4 for video and acc for audio. I can then push the resolution up to 320 x 240 - the native resolution of the phone, and the audio up to 256 @ 48khz. Great for converting music vids. I have the entire talking heads concert film Stop Making Sense at 48kHz 192 kbps ACC in under 300MB (I have a 1GB card in it)
Read my blog here.

Aha! Got it. I was setting the original aspect ratio when I should have been setting the output monitor's aspect ratio (duh!).
Now I have to figure out the ideal settings for the LG Chocolate. Although the screen in 240x320, videos of that size are too jumpy, even at low bit rate. Looks like I'm stuck at 176x144, but I have to figure out the optimal bitrate and frame seettings.
Thanks,
-Mike
