I'm working with mpg2 files sucked off a Dtivo with the excellent Tytools package. Using Tytools and DVDAuthorGUI I have successfully made quite a few DVD's of kids movies etc that I had recorded on my Tivo.

Now I would like to think about using DL media. However, it is not clear to me that DVDAuthor supports DL media. I have a gut feelling it does but haven't been ablt to determine for certain nor how that is done.

If I can't do it with DVDAuthor, can anyone suggest a tool (preferably freeware!).

FWIW, the reason I'm doing things the way I am is that some editing / authoring software out there wants to reencode my tivo video becuase of it not being "standard". I slurp the files off the tivo with tytools straight to mpg2 files, use videoredo to cut out the commercials and save as VOB then use DVDAuthorGUI to create my menus, author the DVD and even create the ISO. Then I burn with DVD Decrypter. Works for me!

  2. Should be no problem. I haven't tried more than ~ 6.5 GB of video with dvdauthor yet, but this runs without a problem. The only known problem is the 11000 seconds bug (for one single movie), which has been patched in the newest dvdauthor version, but I don't know if this is also patched already in the version which is included in dvdauthorgui.

Hey Borax, thanks for the answer. I have a couple of things to straighten out but when I'm ready to go I intend to give your front end a try. Nice work!

I thought dvd decrypter handled dl media , although it's gone now ... there might be yet another way .

Go over to pgcedit site ... load your dvd into this program from hd ... and follow the guide's mention about dl burning ... I think imgburn might be the ticket for dl burning once more for free .

Have not been able to test it out ... stupid xp freaked out on ms update ... had too reload .

  5. I'm using DVDAuthorGUI (on a Win98 machine), but I'm trying to figure out how to make it intake a video-only vob source file that is about 4.1GB (the ac3 audio file is much smaller and ready to mux during authoring)... at the moment the video is split up into four 1GB chunks plus one 113MB chunk.

I could simply reencode everything from the ground up "AGAIN!!", but I would much rather just stick it all into DVDAuthorGUI as is and be done with it. Ultimately, it's all going to be reduced to fit on a single-layer disc using Nero Recode, but I don't wish to do that more than once if I can avoid it.

Yes, I realize that this is a 4GB-limit issue of a sort, but it wouldn't be a problem if I could tell DVDAuthorGUI to use a multi-part source file a the source since I can't just use my usual batch command to combine them into a single file like I generally do.

    Any suggestions?

  6. You mean FAT32? I don't think it will work.
Maybe you can shrink to 4 GB with DVDShrink and then concatenate the vobs.

The question is the audio ... if the video is multiple part's , and audio is one part ... how are you going to resync it ?

The only way is to re-concat that video into a single stream ... and what I have here might be the way out ...

    =========================================

For fat32 , your at the end of the scope of the max file size .

You might just get out of this twist if you use rejig , under file mode , click add , locate you m2v or m2v's (that 4 gig video stream) , choose output location , set you required trim value (compression) ... in this case .

Find out what the value as a percentage this audio file in size would be if it was part of that 4 gig file .

    Ie : 4gig - % (total of audio) =

    Say audio is 400mb's , then % = 10

    See what I mean ...

Ok , just up the audio to the nearest 100mb's to make the calculation simple , then I would remove another 3% as a sweetener .

This would give video stream re-compress value of 13% , 13 from 100 = 87 (put this in where it say's recompression factor)

When ready , hit "re-compress job" , and wait till completed .

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

The number of frame's should still match provided they where a straight out demux as in using a tool like vobedit ... otherwise the audio may become a problem when it come's to resync .

It might be the ticket , and the simplest method for you to follow .

Ps : The max limit is around 4325mb's under fat32 .
