I tried to get the whole question in the title..not sure its worked hmm..
Anyway, I seem to be able to watch all downloaded mpeg and avi files on my TV via my DivX dvd player (Samsung HD850) - apart from mpegs of home footage that has come from my camera.. unless I convert it to DivX.
Am I missing something in the camera/file/conversion picture here which should enable me to watch them from files without having to convert them at all?
I want to store lots of family vids on few discs that are instantly watchable basically.
If not Is there an easy way for me to view them from files using any particular 'free' conversion software?
    Thanks a lot.

    what's your camera model?
what is the mpg properties? mpeg1 or mpeg2, video size, framerate, bitrate, you can identify with mediainfo.

  3. Run the files through Super and save them as Xvid. They should play with no problem on your Divx DVD player.

My digital camera is a sony cyber-shot DSC P100, but it also is the same way for my main Sony camcorder regarding files. I've tried 'super' but to be honest.. it confused me quite a bit and I uninstalled it in the end!

Oh that media info is useful thanks. An example file I'm trying to view is MPEG 1 5.11 MiB 4/3 at 25 fps ? Audio layer 2..
    Thanks for your help

DivX players as a generally rule can handle raw mpg's just fine and should have no problems playing an MPEG-1/mp2 mpg file. Plenty of other converters if you want to convert, but not use Super.

Thanks, are there any one-step simple (for idiots) conversion software that I could say, bundle a whole load of these MPEG 1 home vid clips and it could convert them all at once to be able to play on my DivX player?
I hope I haven't outstayed my welcome on this board..
