I bought a copy on Win XP Pro retail pack with SP2. Cost me 2x then the OEM pack. No wonder Bill G. is the richest on earth ! I notice that during boot-up, there is no "Professional" where my Dell laptop has it. I called M$ tech support and verify it's genuine copy. She couldn't tell what's wrong. Right-click My Comp -> Properties... Win Xp Pro Version 2002.

Anybody know if this is OK ?

    Thanks.

  2. I noticed that my Windows XP Home Edition used to display "Home Edition" on startup until SP2, when the little green squares went blue and the "Home Edition" disappeared. It just says "Microsoft Windows XP" now.

Is your laptop running XP Pro SP1?

It is normal for all PCs with Windows XP SP2 installed (whether its Home or Professional).

Its because of the installation of SP2 (I guess its a feature of Service Pack 2) Without SP2, you will see the Professional (Or Home) logo on boot up, with SP2, you wont. Its the same case for me too (and for anyone else with SP2 installed).

It should say 'Professional' on the 'Control Panel>System>General' page, at least mine does.

  7. Had the same issue after installing SP2 on my Win XP Pro, but found BootSkin and that fix it for me.

Download a copy of BootSkin from http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/
    it's FREE

Stardock BootSkin is a program that allows users to change their Windows 2000 and Windows XP boot screens.

  8. Having said that, it doesn't really make a difference, does it? You know you're running Home or Pro either way.

  9. If you hit the windows key and the pause/break key on the keyboard, in the system info it will say professional or home.
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

It will say Home or Pro in other ways (in Control Panel, or Right Click on My Computer Icon).

Microsoft just changed it with SP2 not to show Home and Professional for the boot screen.
