I have a psp so I was converting some movies to mp4 with ffmpegx and now whenever I do a search for mp4 files on my computer an alias of a mp4 file shows up
and it wont open when I try to open it and it also says fix alias or delete alias and both those dont work

I ran Onyx and that didnt get rid of it

Its not a big problem but kinda annoying just wondering if anyone knows how I could delete it

Its not a actual file that I can see I can only see it when I do a search with finder
In finder it only shows up as a dotted line square box and dragging it to trash doesnt work

Its 0kb and when I get info on the file it says I have no access but Im the admin account and it doesnt say where it is on my computer either

    Thanks for any advice

  2. The "file" is actually just an item in the Spotlight search database. I can't remember off hand the procedure, but that is what Google is for!!! Just look for instructions for reinitializing the spotlight database. From there you should be able to find out what files to delete to get the database to rehash the drive

Actually Onyx has a tool to reset the spotlight index

    Is that what you mean?

and I tried that but the alias is still there

    Any other suggestions are appreciated
I checked google but couldnt find any other ways but didnt really understand it much

  4. It's fairly easy to reset Spotlight. Go to System Preferences>Spotlight, drag your hard drive icon into the Privacy pane, and drop it there. Then, log out and log in and remove the icon from the Privacy pane. That forces Spotlight to re-index the drive.

If this does not work, try running terminal land typing:

    sudo mdutil -E /

This should erase the metadata database for your boot drive. This should cause it to be rebuilt as well. This should take a long time to finish. You can check to see if it is running by using Activity Monitor in the Utilities Folder, or typing ps -achux into terminal. You should see mdutil running.
If it doesn't automatically start indexing for some reason, you can start that manually with:

    sudo mdimport /

You can also try deleting Spotlight's plist file from:

    /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist
