  1. Hi everybody!

I have some movies in AVI format. I want to burn a DVD with them, so I can watch it in my DVD Player. The movies are about 1 hr long. The problem is that when I covert the AVI file to DVD, the new file have more than 4.7 Gb. I tried to convert with a smaller size, but the quality was really bad... I used the program Roxyo Easy Media Creator and AVI2DVD to convert, and I have the same results with both.

Is there anyway to convert movies with 1 or 2 hr long in a good quality, to fit in one single DVD ?

    Thanks in advance!!!

  2. There are multiple, complete guides which detail several different ways to do this. All will require some reading, and more effort than your current methods, and none will make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Check the Guides section to your left.

Most downloaded Divx or Xvid files are of low quality, and/or have used numerous methods which render them non-standard for DVD. Can be difficult to reverse this with decent quality, some loss is unavoidable just because of the re-encoding. Just to get started you will need to do some reading to understand what you have to start with.

For about $50 you can get a DVD player which plays Divx and Xvid.

Convertxtodvd or the freeware divxtodvd may be able to work some magic. However, you still need to know the basics such as the connection between bitrate, running time and file size, and how this ties in with frame size to arrive with a suitable end product.

http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm gives an insight into these considerations, as well as guiding you through using TMPGEnc Plus to make it happen. Might be worth a read
    If in doubt, Google it.

Because it is a half-assed, amateurish way of working. It is difficult enough to maintain the quality without needlessly using a transcoder to reduce something that you can easily get right in the first place.
