I bought FUJI 16x dvd-R (100 stacks) which show up as "ProdiscF02". In my relatively new Philips8701 16x dvddrive, I've made 10 good copies, 15 bad, with NERO, and Dvddecryptor(with verification). FUJI 8x ProdiscF01 dvdrs work fine. Any ideas what's going on?

2nd problem is when I put a blank or burnt copy in my older NEC2500 (8x max) dvddrive, decryptor adds this odd Disc ID info:
    Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
    Disc ID: 0@P-!-00
    Book Type: DVD-R
I get an immediate error in my NEC drive when I try to burn or read with these discs. Is that problem because the drive is 8x and the dvds are 16x?

You may need to upgrade you're burner's firmware. Those F02s were unreadable in my sister's NEC 2500. I gave them to her after my recent experience with them. I suspect at least some of Prodisc's recent output has had major quality control issues. There was a large batch of F01s that I had major problems with. One out of 4 discs would error out. The F02s weren't much better. the older S10 media ID Pros were solid. Very good scans, and quite reliable. I'd suggest sticking with Verbatim MCCs. They seem to be on sale every two weeks.

    PRODISC + NEC = ugh

It's just not a good combination for some reason.
It's been this way for years now.

I have no problem with Fuji ProdiscF01 which are 8x, in either dvd drive. It's the 16x that's killing me. The Philips-Benq drive is 16x, so it shouldn't be making so many coasters.
I can't seem to update my driver for the NEC - it seems like you have to pay NEC for any update. I also have a weird problem with Sony dvd-r 8x on the NEC - it will only burn them at 1x.

Find Nec 2500a firmware here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1740

You would want the one linked to the 1.0A reference beside the flashing red NEW.

EDIT - Above link stopped working - use this instead:

    http://support.necsam.com/optical/downloads/flashfirmware/

Still need 1.0A firmware version. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks, Sickpup. The NEC site says Windows XP users (I'm using XP) don't need drivers. Does that mean I don't need the firmware?

  7. firmware is not the same thing as drivers.

    Firmware
    drivers
    burning software

    all three are different things.

TBoneit is absolutely-positively correct. You need current firmware for something as new as ProdiscF02. The stock 1.0A firmware should be very easy to flash. There should be a readme.txt file that explains the flash process once you've downloaded. Good luck.

I flashed it (the firmware, that is), but I've already returned the dvd-rs, so I don't know if they'll work in the NEC. I was hoping the update would help me burn Sony dvd-r at 8x. For some reason, it only burns them at 1.4 x.
I'll still avoid the ProdiscFO2 because I made coasters in my relatively new Philips8701 16x burner even after verifying them. The Philips8701 is really a BenQ drive that's sold for Dell computers. I'm not sure if there's a firmware update from Dell for it.
