  1. Can the input level from the mic or a line in be changed during recording, or "on the fly"?

  2. The trick is to use an inline volume control. Many people buy one for their stereo headphone. They can also used for external microphone with stereo plug.

This one is from Tandy ( akak radio-shack )

  4. OK, I'm looking seriously at the GL2 for purchase. My goal is to video weddings and maybe pageants (my wife teaches high school and organizes a couple different ones). I'm planning on doing it part time, only a couple gigs a month. I've been checking online deals for the GL2 and for $2100 can get a really good package with hard carry case, 8 hour battery, lens filters, wide angels lens, telephoto lens, wireless mic and more. I have a few questions though.

    1) How is the audio on the included mic for such events? If I do this I'm not going to charge nearly as much as professional services, but I will do whatever I can as an amateur to give them their money's worth.

    2) I've read about errors in the tape mechanism. How common is this? I've heard some say it happened after 50 hours of use and some say after 2 years of use and others say it never happened.

    3) Are there any other brands such as Sony or JVC that have something as good or better for the money? This is the package I'm looking at:

Is there some other brand I could get the same type of package with and get a better camera?

  5. I just got one, and great camera for the money. get it from bhphotovideo.com, for 1750 after rebate, and you can get a 8hr battery from ebay for $20

you can buy a better one, but more expensive, and I don't think there will be that much difference unless you upgrade to HD.

the mic is great, you don;t need another one.

I have an elura40 for 4 yrs now, no problem with the mechanism, and it's the same. it all depends on how you handle it, if you are gentle, is should last a long time.

Sound quality is fine and it's pretty sensitive. I recorded a wedding from about 50 feet away and was able to pick up the vows with it, It's low as expected but definitley enough to amplify without introducing much hiss if any. Quick tip about the microphone settings, if you're going to record anything really loud such as band in a bar make sure you turn the mic attenutator on. Otherwise it will clip anytime there is snare hit or cymbal crash. Manually adjust the volume levels accordingly, I'd strongly suggest giving it test run before recording anything of importance in a situation like that before depending on the audio.

I've read the same and have about 50 hours on mine and haven't had any trouble yet.

Can't comment but you won't be disappointed for the money you spend on the GL2. It's well worth it, picture quality is outstanding
