Just bought a "2nd" DVD player - stumbled on the Matsui DVD227 and just basically grabbed it.
Seems good enough, but it obviously lacks MP3 playback support. (I can browse a MP3 disc, but nothing but the folders show (not the files)) However, some reports it can play MP3 - in fact, there seems to be 2 versions of this player, one with and one without MP3 support. Found the region free hack, but no mention of enabling MP3, and no official/unofficial firmware upgrade seems to be found. Any ideas on if it's possible at all to enable MP3 playback with this beast?

After discovering on the Internet the code for enabling multi-region on the Matsui DVD227, I then did some experimenting with this code to try and enable mp3 playing and I discoverd how to do it. If you don't already know, the code for enabling multi-region is "1389" and this code can also be used to enable mp3 playing.

    Follow the following instructions:

    1. Press SETUP on the remote control. The SETUP menu appears.

    2. Then use the arrow keys on the remote control to go to AUDIO.

    3. When you are at AUDIO, then type in the code "1389" with the remote control.

    4. Now a menu appears to either enable or disable mp3.

    5. Use the arrow keys to either enable or disable mp3, that is to select YES or NO.

    6. When you have selected YES to enable mp3 then press ENTER on the remote control. Mp3 playing is now enabled.

    7. Then press SETUP again to exit the SETUP menu.

MP3 playing should now be enabled on your Matsui DVD227. It definitely worked for me anyway.

As I have said, the same code "1389" can be used to enable multi-region. The instructions for this can be found elsewhere on the Internet. If you want the instructions from me to enable multi-region, post another post to this site requesting so.

Hey! Thanks! I'll give that a go when I get back home. Yes, like you I found lots of info on the multi region trick, but nothing on MP3. Even if multi region isn't that big a deal to me, (after all, if I have one of those wrong region discs it's just a matter of ripping and copying it to make the disc multi region) I did that - Didn't realize how close to enabling MP3 playback I was.

Thanks again - worked like a charm! Why do they deliberately cripple a player like that?

You're welcome, glad to help. I just sort of discovered it when I was experimenting, it's one of those things, I was lucky to come across it. Becuase it did say on the documentation and on sites on the Internet that the Matsui DVD227 does support mp3 then I thought there must be a way of finding how to do it and luckily I just stumbled across it pretty quickly. It's great to have it enabled isn't it.

Yeah - Thanks again. They are obviously sold with different options enabled, no doubt with different price tags. However, MP3 support is somethingat least I takes for granted - not an option to pay extra for!
