  1. Background
I have a collection of home recorded material recorded on my Philips DVD recorder using DVD+RW discs.
I recently bought a Sony RDR-HX510 that is advertised as being dual format supporting both DVD+RW and DVD-RW. However, that is practically a lie as the +RW support is very poor, you can not even set chapters, so I must convert my DVD+RW to DVD-RW (vr mode) in order to edit on the Sony.

    Question
Please can anyone say how videos on DVD+RW (in DVD+VR format) can be converted to DVD-RW (VR mode)?

The main problem is finding any good software that can author a DVD-RW (VR mode) disc. There is plenty that can create DVD-Video (I use TDA) and plenty that can read a VR format disc but what can author one?

  2. I have found that Nero Vision 4 can both edit an existing VR mode DVD-RW and also create one from scratch i.e. mpg files.
The resulting disc then be edited on the set top (whilst sat in the lounge).
However, the software says it is 'smart encoding' and I am not sure yet, if this means re-encoding and hence loss of quality yet?
    Still, it is some progress

  3. Now, I have found some software called VRCopy which does what I want but only works for DVD-Ram!

I need to write out VR mode DVD-RW so I am still searching.

  4. TMPGenc Author works on Panasonic VR files created on RAM discs after they are copied to the HD. Might be worth a look.
Still a few bugs in the system...
