    Hi

I have a Divx which is causing me some major grief.

It won't play on one mac even though I'm positive they have the same codecs etc.

Toast crashes when I try to encode/burn it - it's done that twice.
(on the Mac that will play it in QT Pro)

MPEG2Works (4.0.7) freezes the whole mac when it is trying to process it.
    (tried that one twice)

ffmpegX (latest version/build incl. binaries) has run through the file twice and fails towards the end. I currently have a video_ts folder with what seems like all the neccesary bits, DVD player won't touch it, VLC plays part of it then it looses sound.

I tried to get info from ffmpegX progress window then that frozen and I had to force quit it !!
    (ffmpeX failed twice also)

    Info about original file:-
    From Quicktime:
    Format:
    Generic MPEG-4, 512 x 224, Unknown
    AC3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    AC3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz

    Info from vlc:
    Stream 0 - XVID
    Stream1 - ms
    Stream 2 - ms
    Description - DivX

Error message from VLC when I try to play it:
No suitable decoder module for for fourcc 'ms'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format

Yet QT can play it OK ?
I no longer have the files from the ffmpegX attempt as I had to clear some space.

Running Mac OS 10.4.6, QT Pro 7.0.4.

I'm a doofus when it comes to video stuff so please be gentle.

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Can you play it in the Quicktime player? If so, use the "Decode with Quicktime" option.

QT plays it fine on one Mac - and that is the Mac I used for all my attempts as posted above.

I did use the "Decode with Quicktime" option - so this and the fact that Toast crashes with it, is what is so perplexing here.

You might try exporting it with DivX Doctor 2.

  5. Make sure you have latest XviD and AC3 QT Component installed...After re-installing the components try the encoding again with my app /MPEG2 Works 4/ or other mentioned apps...If that wont work then try to remove /delete/ one audio track from your XviD /it has 2 audio tracks as I can see from your post/ in QuickTime PRO or some other app and then try to encode to MPEG2 again...

I ran the file through Divx Doctor and installed the Xvid component.
(I already had the AC3 codec there - thanks people!! )

The good news is MPEG2Works processed the file - but the bad news is when I went to burn it with toast, it asked me if I wanted to re-encode it as PAL. Why would it want to do this if I selected the PAL DVD option in MPEG2Works ?

And what can I do now?

  7. If you used PAL DVD preset buttons in my app then your .mpg is PAL for sure...Either author it and burn it under Advanced Authoring section with my app or turn off the re-encoding in Toast and burn it with that app...
