I have a problem wth RMVB files which I converted to AVI-DivX files using ffmpegX on the Macintosh. On the computer, I can choose which audio channel to playback along with with the movie.

When I record the movie as DivX disc (to playback on a commercial DVD player which supports DivX playback), I lose the ability to choose the left and right channels and the two audio tracks become one (played back one over the other). The DivX disc is recorded using Titanium Toast7.

Is there anything out there on the Mac platform which can help me with the audio issue in this?

How do you wish to fix it?

    a) split the left and right channels into 2 mono channels, dupe each into two separate stereo tracks, then remux them back into the AVI/DIVX.

    pro: proper way
con: no idea if your DIVX player can support alternate sound tracks

    b) leave it alone, adjust left/right with your TV controls

    pro: easy, nothing to change
con: kinda complicated on the TV side

    Hi chang,

If I choose to do (a), how do I go about on the Mac? I believe the DIVX player does support alternate sound tracks because when I recorded a movie off the tv channel, I could toggle between either language when played back.

    Thanks for your advice.

Hi, this is what I did....

Hardware platform is an iMac running 10.4.6, all software updates done when prompted by system.

ffMpegX version is 0.0.9w. (I was also able to decode RMVB using the previous 0.0.9u version)

The crux lie in the reallib for RMVB. This folder must be copied manually into folder in the Hard Disk:Library:Application Support:ffmpegX (not Library under Users).

The other required files are mencoder mplayer.
First, I downloaded the required files as directed in ffmpegX home page. When ffmpegX is first run, the applications prompts for the abovementioned files. Browse to where these files are located on your hard disk and ffmpegX will do the rest. That's all I needed to do. Hope this helps.
