Why is it that much of an issue? Logically thinking, the title needed to be reworked anyway. You would not call the phanton menace episode 4 because it was a prequel. I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

In the Star Wars Insider (the fan club magazine) Rob Coleman said that the only reason they did the digital Yoda scenes from Episode I was for practice between Episode II and Episode III. Lucas has said that he has no plans to replace the Yoda puppet in Episode I with a digital Yoda. Just as he's said he has no plans to replace the Yoda puppet in ESB and ROTJ with a digital Yoda.

Then again Lucas also said he wouldn't release the non-special edition trilogy on DVD

Its not like Rob Coleman is gonna tell you about whats in the works for SW dvds. As the technology gets better, it seems the SW movies change as well. Im not in favor for all the changes in the movies but hey ,they do look alot better than the older versions. Lucas is gonna do what he wants to his films cause he can. Im not gonna go out and get the unaltered version cause its just to ancient looking. To each their own I guess.

I wasn't questioning whether you liked him as a person or not, I was just saying that while you might not like him as an actor, he is a very nice guy in real life. I didn't know that you had met him and already knew this. That's all Some people have the tendency to think that an actor (as a person) is like the character(s) they play, and that's not always true.

Probably not. But seeing as how Lucas confirmed that he has no (current) plans to alter the saga any more, that kind of confirms it, doesn't it? Granted, Lucas may change his mind 5, 10 or 15 years down the road when he's looking for a way to sell more SW. But regarding the digital Yoda seen in "Within a Minute", that's the official reason for it, not that they are going to replace the puppet Yoda in TPM, ESB and ROTJ.

you know, that "limited edition" wording on the cover... im really so tired of every goddamn movie coming out as LE. Too bad there is no way to ask them as to what is this edition limited? because to the number of copies they dump on the market Im sure it is not.

    Lucas can go f**k himself.
When I was that age when I'd buy any version - he told us "f*ck you" by saying those 97SE version is all I can have back then. Now Im so glad Im over it, and I can easily tell him back "FU too Georgie, and F* your 100th versions of the same shite".

Really, I don't get it, what makes him think people will flock to buy this close-to-tenth version of same 30 years old movie?
I take bets now that these will be the least popular DVDs from all the SW releases

(edit: yoda, don't shoot - Im still big SW fan, but clearly Lucas is out of his mind with all that toying with SW movies, in 5-10 years cgi technology will be even better and he will what? - redo again some or all of them to yet another better 100th SE version or something? He's crazy, he made 1 good movie in 6 parts and he's like sitting duck toying with it... no one else see him like a madman he is?)

    I will never believe this.
There were many DVDs that supposed to be sold only in a limited time frame, and they never keep that 'promise'.
Example: Disney's Limited Issue DVDs, that supposed to be sold in 2000 or 2001 only, and then removed from retail stores and "locked" for another 10 years (or so, i dont remember exact details now). Every time I go to my local videostore I see i.e. "Mulan" there for sale, with the same $29.99 CAD pricetag as it was 7 years ago when I bought (should have not buy it back then, $30 7 years ago adjusted for inflation... wow would save ~$5 hehe )
So I'm sorry, but I don't buy that crap about it being "limited" in any way.
If they will stop selling it after Dec 31st it will be only on starwars official store, maybe amazon.com, and maybe you won't be able to order it after that day - but every brick'n'mortar retailer will offer it for sale for as long as they will have copies on shelves, same as they do with any other not 'limited' DVDs.

    edit:
we can start some "SW LE spotting" topic on Jan. 01/2007 and see where ppl will still spot them being sold

Ha, so there you go hech54. This version will include the original title of just "Star Wars." Too bad the quality will suck.

It sounds like you'd probably get a better copy from one of the people here that has converted they're laserdisc - reading the SW conversion thread you get the sense that those people have put in more work on the conversion/restoration than LucasFilm.

  16. I was upset at first after finding out the original trilogy was going to be released... since I just purchased the LD's to make my own transfer.

Now that I hear he is going to transfer the LD's to DVD, I'm glad I bought them.

Can't see why he is bothering. I guess he thinks he'll throw us some scraps and we'll be happy.

Doesn't that edition have pro-logic encoded stereo??? That should still sound pretty good. For those folks who have pro-logic 2 on their systems they'll be really happy.

Where did you read this? Everything I have seen from Lucas has said that he considers the lastest release to be the definitive and final version of the trilogy and that they will not be changed again.
Read this write up. 30th anniversary is coming next year.

Sometimes it strange and to a certain extend .. funny... Star Wars fans will do !

Once awhile, just pop the Star Wars DVDs into player and enjoy the hack of it. No matter how many times we already watch. Strange !

    BUMP!!

Well I bought my set Wednesday. They look great! I don't have hdtv so the laserdisc transfer looks just fine to me. And since I dont' have a widescreen tv the lack of anamorphic ability doesn't bother me either.

I like having a digital copy of the original. I only had the full screen original videotapes. I haven't watched them lately because I didn't want them to wear down anymore than they already have. Now I can watch the originals as many times as I want without worrying about degradation.
