I have a small clip at my site for you to try.

    http://www.ct-iowa.com/noise.avi

I have tried scripts from the AVIsynth Despot site and others suggested here. So far the Despot filter does not remove ANY spots in the clip.

Can someone experiment and show me a script that does work? I'm very new to avisynth and most likely am doing something wrong on my part.

    BAD LINK

Better double check it. Might have typed it in wrong perhaps.

Anyways I used Despot once a long time ago (I might still have the script I used ... not sure).

It was absolutely brilliant ... cleaned up the captured video VERY well.

I haven't seen your video yet so I don't know what your problem is but in my case this was a VHS video that was made from a cable TV channel but that channel was all buggered up and had a lot of "static" poping up all over the place. I would say that Despot got rid of probably 90% of the static but I'm talking small things here ... the bigger the "spots" or whatever then the harder to "hide" them or "blend them in" or whatever it does. Plus the static wasn't in the same exact spot for long as it "danced around" so again that makes it easier for a filter to work.

As I said this was a VHS video and it was captured with a PCI video capture card using PICVideo MJPEG at the 19 quality setting then converted to MPEG-2 DVD spec using AviSynth and either CCE or TMPGEnc (I forget which I was using back then now I only use CCE but I used to use TMPGEnc).

As I recall I didn't use any special "settings" for Despot. Also I forget now if you have to seperate your fields to use it then recombine ... my guess is yes.

I'll have to see if I have that old script laying around ... in the meantime fix your link.

Sorry about the typo! I fixed it.

This is a 8mm film that I have captured. I know it has some duplicate frames but I have never found a way to get rid of them.

It has a lot of dirt, hair and other things in the video. I tried SpotRemover for Virtualdub and set it to show where it defined noise for removal and nothing was marked.

Maybe there is no hope of cleaning this footage.

    Thanks!

Sorry but I don't have the AviSynth AVS file anymore.

Sounds like your source has a lot of "muck" in it so I don't know what to tell you other than experiment with different settings and different filters.

I'm downloading the clip now so if I have time I'll play with it myself some. If I discover a filter that I think looks promising I'll let you know.

Looks like the clip I put out there is goofed up. I must have messed with it one too many times!

I will capture it again and replace it and will update when it is done.

    Thanks!!
