  1. I had some changes with codecs (I installed some of NimoCodec package) and now my Virtualdub freeze does not play a file. I mainly use it to cut avi's so after openiing I need to go to a certain frame etc. However VDub claims the following:

    error initializing audio stream decompression
    The requested conversion is not possible
    Check to make sure you have the equired codec

    This happens in direct stream copy as well as full processing mode.

    I then opened the file in gspot, where all needed codecs are said to be available (on hd).

    vdeo:
    xvid
    The following codecs all claim to be capable of processing this format:

    --> {XviD MPEG-4 Codec}
    --> {DivX Decoder Filter}
    --> {ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder}
    --> {XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder}
    --> {DivX Decoder Filter}

    audio:
    0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Audio Format:
    Code: 0x0055
    Name: WAVE_FORMAT_MPEGLAYER3 (MP3)
    Vendor: ISO/MPEG

    The following codecs all claim to be capable of processing this format:

    --> {MPEG Layer-3 Codec (professional)}
    --> {Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (professional)}
    --> {LAME MP3 Codec (coder only)}
    --> {MPEG Layer-3 Decoder}
    {Nero Digital Audio Decoder}

    I used rendering with the following result:
    DirectShow claims to be able to play the file. The following combination of filters were used:

    {J:\serving\tv-shows\C..-..d-xor.[VTV][EZTV].avi} (Source)
    {AVI Splitter} (Splitter)

    {DivX Decoder Filter} (Video Decoder)
    {Video Renderer} (Video Renderer)

    {MPEG Layer-3 Decoder} (Audio Decoder)
    {Morgan Stream Switcher} (Audio Post-processor)
    {AC3Filter} (Audio Post-processor)
    {Default DirectSound Device} (Audio Renderer)

    I tried to google and read here to find out what the problem might be and I assume it is either a codec problem or a wrong setting in virtualdub. However I don't know what it might be.
    Accord. to Gspot all needed codecs are there. Since the only changes I made between working vdub and not-working vdub was a codec thing I assume it has something to do with codecs.
    But how can I find out what is wrong and fix it? All I need is a fast avi splitting, no fancy conversions etc. needed.
    Are there other codecs I can try to install that might be of help?

    If you've installed the Nimo codec pack, only solution may be to reformat and reinstall OS and the lot. Or go codec hunting (use Codec SAniper or equiv.), deleting everything but Windows default codecs, then start adding new codecs as they are needed.

    Your problem is with the audio decompression. CodecSniper or DXMan should help you with cleaning up the codecs. Codec packs tend to do this unfortunately.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Windows XP...system restore to a point before you installed the codec package.
    I said I'll be done in a minute. I meant a Microsoft minute.
