Okay so heres my question.
Archive.org suggest files be uploaded as MPEG2 and thats cool. I was just curious as how to do it. I know compressor (i have final cut pro) can create them but do they not come out as m2v and aiff or ac3? The ones on the archive.org site are just .mpeg files.
How do I go about creating these? thanks

You can put the video (m2v) and audio (ac3/mp2/aiff) into one file with a process called multiplexing, or muxing for short.
Many tools can do this, e.g. MPEG Streamclip. Put both the m2v and ac3 in a separate folder, open the vid in MPEG Streamclip, it will locate the audio by itself, then Convert to MPEG will mux them into one .mpeg file. -
just to double check, the final .mpeg file, it will be an MPEG2 file right?

Yep, if the source was MPEG-2, then so is the muxed file MPEG-2. You can verify this using the Show stream info command in the File menu, after opening the output file again in MPEG Streamclip.

If the source was not MPEG2 use MPEG2Works 4 to convert it.
