I was wondering if anyone could help me out here? I do a lot of work in Pro Tools 7 for audio editing to picture, but Quicktime 7 doesn't work in this version. So I have Quicktime 6 installed on my system. Here's the issue: I'm starting to get a lot of files sent to me in QT7 H.264, it's a major PITA. Although I can ask the people to resend them i'd rather not continue to do this.
Is there a program that converts from H.264 MP4-->Sorenson files?(for use in my Pro Tools software)
Is there a program that will let me play files in this format as well but not override my QT6 installation(for casual playback)? I know about QT Alternative but from what I understand it goes over my QT installation - i need that QT6 there for PT as I said.
Thanks!

While there are some other programs that can read and decode h.264 content, they're all Directshow/AVI-based. You'd still have to be able to open/read the file to export it from a QT ".MOV" container to a ".AVI" container. That brings you back to QT...
You don't want to mess up your PT system. Either get another computer to do the conversion job, or set up the computer to dual boot (with different OS's on different partitions so they won't overwrite each other). On the 2nd System/OS, you could either get QT7Pro or use QT Alternative. You might have more flexibility with QTAlt., but you'd have less bugs/config problems with QT7Pro.
BTW, how's PT 7?? (I'm envious--still mainly using PT 5.13)

Yeah I was worried you'd suggest the dual boot or seperate computer option. If I went that route I'd have QT 7 Pro on there and that would take care of everything pretty much. I just noticed that my VLC media player actually plays H.264 files which is half my problem solved. Now just the conversion program on this installation of my windows and i'd be set.
Pro Tools 7 is a big change from PT6, which was an even bigger leap from PT5. There is no more small filenaming limitations in PT7 which is one of my favourite changes, also more support for dual core machines and supposed performance increases on RTAS plugins. I'm just totally PO'd by the fact that QT7 doesn't work in this version and i'm basically ignored on the digi forums bringing this issue up. What happens is if you hit play with a movie loaded into the session, the system will choke for about a minute - another user on there had the same problem confirming this is not just my system. Totally unstable. -
Apple seems to have done a big rewrite under the hood when going from v6 to v7. Especially audio structure (which is why many are complaining of "silent" audio after upgrading)--lots to do with the new support of multichannel audio. Don't know what they did on the video side that would make such difficulty though.
