Nero Digital to DVD conversion?

I have been backing up my DVD collection to my hard drive and I typically use DVDFAB or DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD's.

I have converted several DVD's to Nero Digital but my DVD player (LG LRY-517) does not support the Nero Digital format. It supports DivX and Xvid but not Nero Digital.

I have tried Guardian Knot and Simple DivX for the DVD to DivX conversion but the results are less than perfect. I get artifacting and other problems.

Question 1: Is there a way to convert Nero Digital BACK to DVD? I am using up lots of space on my hard drive by backing up my DVD's so I want to convert them to Nero Digital to store the entire DVD in a compressed format on my HDD. I still want the ability to convert them back into a DVD format without loosing too much video quality.

Question 2: Is there something better than Nero Digital that utilizes DivX that I can use on my DVD player? Most DivX freeware so far has produced video that does not look as good as Nero Digital. Again, I still want to have the ability to convert it back to DVD format from the DivX format too.

I have a high end home built computer and better than average video experience but I am having a tough time deciding what to do about this. Any ideas? SJ
