So I've read that the audio encoder in TMPGEnc isn't very good and that you should only use that program from creating your elementary video stream while encoding your audio elsewhere.

So with what encoder should I use to do this audio conversion and how? Do I rip sound straight from the vob files or what/how? And if your sources sound is only in stereo is it always just best to convert to PCM, if sound quality is most important to you?

What MPEG/Sound encoders do you use instead of the one in TMPGEnc?

Ok, so I now see that this "ffmpegGUI" encoder is a popular one to use.

Let me ask this though: if your source is stereo only - then what are the absolutle best settings to use with this encoder to produce the highest quality conversion?

  3. Use TooLame for the encoder, and SSRC for frequency conversion. Specify in TMPGenc environmental settings as add-ins.

PCM is fine if you have the room for a gigabyte or more for audio.

    What is your source ?

If the source is good quality PCM, either use that (as noted - if you have the space), or a high bitrate AC3 (256kbps for 2.0 channel or better).

If the source is mp3 audio from an avi file, then quality is a moot point, so AC3 at 192 - 224 kbps will be as good as the original.
