It isn't a big secret that most drivers speed either but the average speeder doesn't brag about speeding where the police can hear it.

Kevs, I don't know that DTOX is "better" than Toast. Some say
its compression algorithm is better. It can do more than Toast,
to be sure, and sometimes those extra capabilities make up for
not being quite as easy as Toast to use. An example from another
forum re the DVD Capote:
----------
Use MTR 2.66 and do a main feature ARccOS Extraction. It took
about 36 minutes on my powerbook 1.67 then use DTOX2 and
select movie only remove the first 10 cells and then burn using
Toast 7 I had no problems backing this up.
----------
That "no problem" solution could be a tad more than any normal
person wants to go through. Same with spanning single-layer
DVDs. I'd use a double-layer disc just for the convenience. But
DTOX is certainly another tool in the kit.
Toast7 is definitely the ease-of-use champion, but it doesn't do
everything. And it doesn't need to. Within a week of Capote's
release, MacTheRipper 3.0r13d handled the DVD automagically.Al Bloom -
I have found that it is a good idea to have many tools an your tool box. I have found DETOX to be better for something's and Toast 7 to be better for others. I also keep 3 versions of MTR , because MTR 2.66 works great on older DVD's and then the newer versions for newer DVD's.
I like Toast 7 because it is simple to use and the burns from toast 7 are flawless (on good media). Yes, Toast 7 will let you know how much compression is needed (as will DETOX 2). I have not had great success with the burning part of DETOX 2, so even when I use DETOX to compress I use toast to burn.
I have gone to using DL media more and more often, you can find the verbatim DL for $2 each on sale and when I do I buy some. I have had great luck with these.
Here are the guidelines I have used.
25% or less compression and I use Toast 7 all the way.
25%-30% and I use DETOX, then toast to burn.
Over 30% or if the movie has a lot of action I use DL media.
Another way to look at it if you are doing a full disc then if the file size is over 6 gigs I use a DL media, under 6 gigs I will compress.Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion. -
Just a small note...If someone uses MTR to rip and then DTOX to re-compress then he/she does not need Toast for burning...DTOX 2 have burning option...If that option wont work for you for some reason then there is a freeware/shareware apps which will make burnable .dmg /disk image/ from your ripped and/or re-compressed VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders which you can then burn using the Disk Utility or burn using the burning option in mentioned freeware/shareware...Also you can just insert blank DVD-R and then just drop VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders onto it and Finder will burn it /NOTE: DVDs burned like that sometimes WONT work on some older standalone DVD players/...
Of course, if you allready have Toast and got used on it then there is no reason to use something else for burning only...Above note is for users who dont have Toast and dont want to buy it...
