  1. Hi, I bought a rip-off video camera in Lanzarote last Feb and I found out I was conned like countless others into thinking it was a JVC. Anyway....water under bridge.
The camera makes OK-ish videos in .avi format. 1 file per clip.

When I come to "Add Video Files" in Nero 6 when trying to make a DVD or VCD, it says :-
    Unable to insert C:\My Documents\IMAG0004.AVI.

I have tried renaming to lower case to no effect.

Other .avi files from elsewhere load into Nero OK.

The file plays fine on the PC in Media Player.

Any ideas? Many thanks for any help - I attach a sample file in case it helps.

    imag0047.avi

When I drop your file into Gspot, it says it's a Motion JPEG, which is common with video still cameras. If your files are the same, try something besides Nero and convert it to another format. DivxToDVD is reported to work. I suspect SUPER would also.

As has been mentioned here countless times, Nero is fine for burning files, but not so good at everything else. JMO.

  3. Well - Thanks very much! I was unaware of the differences that a file extension could cover.

I'll investigate a conversion programme as suggested.

    Late breaking news........................

I loaded the fioles into good old Windows Movie Maker......and saved the "project" as a .WMV file which, in turn Nero DOES seem to like!

No doubt I lose a bit of quality along the way but hey-ho.

download/install the "basic or standard version" of k-lite codec (under 2mb)
from: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm ...it intalls all free codecs, including a good mjpeg one so that now all your programs
will recognize your mjpeg avi's! works like a charm so nero will then natively accept the files.

Please don't install the whole K-lite codec pack. There are many, many posts on this site on how people have screwed up their system doing that. It can install old codecs, corrupted codecs and codecs that overwrite your working ones till the whole system can lock up.

If you need a codec, use a program like Gspot to determine which one, then download and install only the one you need. You can easily have problems by having 'too many codecs'.

Exactly. Telling someone to install a codec pack is really bad advice, IMHO.
    If in doubt, Google it.
