  1. I have a older JVC camcorder I bought that is not being recognized by my computer. I have a new Toshiba M-65 laptop, XP, SP2. I didn't have a 4 pin to 4 pin cable, but I did have a 4 pin firewire to USB 2 cable which I'm using in the usb port. Could that be the problem? I'm getting the error message "unknown usb device" and "no supported capture device" in Nero and WinDV. Hope I explained that sufficiently, thank you so much, Doug

Yes. Get a Firewire cable and use the Firewire port.

Hope the url comes through. I did find out that usb cannot be used for video or so another forum states. Hey, I'm a newbie. Rameletronics has a 6 pin to 4 pin adapter I'd like to buy, do you think it would cause me problems. I have a 6/4 pin cable right now so why buy another. Thanks for your quick responses, Doug

I don't think that is a USB to Firewire cable. If it has USB on one end, the other is probably mini USB, which looks similar to a mini Firewire cable connector. You are probably looking for a 6 pin Firewire to 4 pin Firewire. The computer is usually the 6 pin end. The extra two pins on a 6 pin cable are to carry power for external devices and are not needed by the camera, hence the 4 pins on the other end.
